Dave Mott

Managing Director

Lead Physiotherapist

Dave set up Physiofitness in 2010 after working full time in professional football with Barnet, AFC Bournemouth and the England Under 18's as well as various private practice roles. Dave saw there was a clear need for high quality sports physiotherapy treatment available to everyone. Since Physiofitness' inception Dave has treated many elite sports at the clinic including individuals such as Geeva Mentor (England Netball), Mark Blundell (Formula One) and Bob Wilson (Ex Arsenal GK) as well as hundreds of amateur and semi professional athletes.

Dave has a keen interest in the older athlete and is currently writing a book about how to keep competitive as the years tick by. Dave is well known as one of the most progressive and forward thinking Physiotherapists in the South and is constantly looking at ways to improve the experience Physiofitness can offer drawing on all his experience in over 30 years in the health and fitness industry.

Away from the clinic Dave is most often found on the beautiful Dorset coast walking with his family and dogs, running, wild swimming and when he can, in the mountains hiking or snowboarding. Dave still has a passion for football and regularly plays competitive 11- a side as well as 7-a side games. He obviously passed the genes on to his daughter who plays football for Southampton FC and has recently been called up to train in the England ladies U18 squad.

" We all very much believe in a hands on physiotherapy approach, through years of experience we know what works best for individuals, taking into account their injury, the background of why it happened and what they want to return to. We return patients back to their chosen activity fitter, stronger and less likely to sustain injury than they were previously."

Tom Jenkins

Clinical Director

Senior Physiotherapist

Tom started his physiotherapy career in professional football, first with AFC Bournemouth and then Notts County FC. Giving him a wider understanding of elite sport and the requirements of the Physiotherapist in these environments. Tom then relocated to Greece where he was treating athletes in watersports pursuits such as sailing and windsurfing. On return to the UK Tom joined up with PhysioFitness and believed strongly in its business aim which led him to join Dave as a Director.

Tom splits his time between predominately working at the clinic but has been team Physiotherapist for Wales Mens Hockey Squad since 2015, something he is very proud of with his Welsh heritage. Currently ranked at an all time best of 18th in the world and competing in the top tier of European Hockey. Tom attends regular training camps in Cardiff and travels with the squad for all competitions which in recent years has included competing in Kuala Lumpur, Antwerp and Helsinki. When not treating patients Tom will either be walking in the New Forest with his wife or on the fairways of local golf course Ferndown GC.

Tom is passionate about elite sports and returning athletes back to their pursuits as quickly as possible and has a keen interest how technology can help further physiotherapy. This passion has led to Physiofitness leading the way with certain treatments including being one of the first physiotherapy clinics to adopt shockwave therapy in 2016 and currently one of only a 6 practices in the UK to offer MBST cell regeneration therapy.

" We have all been involved with professional elite sport and know both the commitments required and the limitations. We are always looking for innovative ways of treating and constantly stay up to date with the latest medical advances. We provide anyone that comes to the clinic access to the same level of care and a treatment approach that a professional athlete would receive. There is nothing better than getting someone who can't do what they love back to it, whether that be gentle exercise a couple times a week or international competition. "

Jess Grimson

Sports Therapist

Commonwealth Athlete

Jess originally came to Physiofitness as a patient following shoulder surgery due to repetitive use in volleyball. This lead her to complete a period of rehabilitation with Dave. Having attended Bath University Jess qualified as a Sports Therapist and when having her treatment with Dave she was impressed about the vision of Physiofitness and the service they were providing for athletes and wanted to become part of it.

Jess is one of the UK's top Beach Volleyball players. She has competed worldwide, playing on the CEV (European tour), FIVB (World Tour). Jess represented Team England at the 2018 Commonwealth games in The Gold Coast, Australia. This was the first time Beach Volleyball had been a Commonwealth sport.

Training and competing at international sport regularly, Jess understands the commitments required of athletes which helps her to provide elite standards of treatment. Jess' is particularly interested in the role exercise has in rehabilitation and enjoys researching the latest evidence on exercise therapy.

" As well as treating injuries and returning people to sport we place a big emphasis on keeping athletes performing at their best through regular manitaince and injury prevention sessions. We understand each patients individual situation and what they require from their body and work with them to help them achieve their goals."

Alongside Sports Therapy Beth is a qualified personal trainer, teaches spin classes, kettlebell workouts and leads sessions at our outdoor area Parley Farm Outdoor Fitness. "We give patients strategies to help maintain their fitness throughout injury. If we can keep patients doing the sport they love alongside their treatment then we will, providing them the appropriate modifications. Once we feel they are ready to return to activity fully, we work out the steps needed to regain fitness, transitioning from Physio to Fitness, hence the name!"

Robyn Charles

Chartered

Physiotherapist

Robyn is a Chartered Physiotherapist qualifying from the University of West England, being taught  by some of the same lecturers as Tom had a number of years earlier! Robyn had come to know Physio Fitness from being a patient and was enthused about the musculoskeletal rehabilitation she received. Upon graduation Robyn was delighted to join the clinic and use her knowledge and passion for sport to help others.

Robyn has competed nationally and regionally in both the UK and Australia in athletics, swimming, netball and hockey.  Robyn now spends most of her time on the water, walking the dog, watching Bath Rugby at the Rec or climbing along the Jurassic coast.

An area of Physiotherapy that Robyn is particularly interested in is women's health. Especially returning to exercise and sport post pregnancy as this is often a part of post natal recovery that is overlooked.

" As a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist there are very few other private practices that enable you to have access to cutting edge equipment, such as we have at Physio Fitness, without being an elite athlete. The clinic is the perfect environment to explore my own philosophies on rehabilitation whilst being able to draw on knowledge of other experienced health professionals. Every member of the team is so passionate about their profession and getting the best results for their patients."
